Position in the Sentence

Many Italian connectors can appear in different positions: 'Però' and 'tuttavia' often go after the subject or between clauses ('Marco però non viene'). 'Poiché' and 'siccome' go at the START of a sentence. 'Quindi/dunque' typically follow the verb or go at the start of the second clause. When in doubt, put the connector between the two clauses it links.

What are Italian logical connectives?

Words that link ideas logically: tuttavia (however), inoltre (moreover), pertanto (therefore), quindi (so), invece (instead), comunque (anyway), infatti (in fact), tuttavia (nonetheless), d’altronde (on the other hand), nonostante (despite). They structure formal arguments.

What is the difference between però, tuttavia, and ma?

All three mean "but/however". Ma is the most common and neutral ("è caro ma buono"). Però is informal and emphatic ("è caro, però lo prendo"). Tuttavia is formal and written ("La proposta è valida; tuttavia, presenta criticità").

How do you express "therefore" in Italian?

Several options of varying register: quindi (most common, neutral), perciò (so, slightly more formal), pertanto (therefore, formal), dunque (thus, slightly old-fashioned), di conseguenza (consequently, formal). All link cause to consequence.
