Rule reminder

In journalistic Italian, reported speech often uses the indicative (especially condizionale) rather than the subjunctive: 'Il premier ha detto che la situazione sarebbe migliorata.' The condizionale is also used to signal unverified claims: 'Il sospettato sarebbe fuggito all'estero.'
