Rule reminder
The gerundio assoluto uses a gerund (present or compound) where the gerund's subject differs from the main clause subject. This construction is literary and formal: 'Essendo arrivato tardi, non trovò posto' (the subject of 'arrivato' is he/she, same as the main clause — this is NOT absolute). True gerundive absolutes are rare: 'Essendo la situazione grave, si decise di intervenire'. More common: 'pur + gerundio' for concession (shared subject). 'Non avendo + past participle' for negated reason.
