Italian word

presidente

president; chairman/chairperson of any organisation

Looks like

president

the head of state of a republic; the head of a company or organisation

⚠️ The trap

In Italy the President of the Republic is largely a ceremonial head of state. Real executive power lies with the Prime Minister ('Presidente del Consiglio'). English speakers may assume the 'Presidente' has U.S.-style executive power.

To say "the head of state of a republic; the head of a company or organisation" in Italian:

presidente

"presidente" in English means:

president; chairman/chairperson of any organisation

Example

"Il Presidente della Repubblica ha firmato la legge."

"The President of the Republic signed the law."
