Italian word

tiramisù

a dessert made with espresso-soaked savoiardi biscuits, mascarpone and eggs

Looks like

tiramisu

literally 'pick me up' or 'lift me up' in Italian

⚠️ The trap

'Tiramisù' literally means 'pull me up' / 'pick me up' (from 'tirare su mi'). The name refers to the energising effect of the espresso and sugar. Many restaurant versions outside Italy use whipped cream instead of mascarpone — this is NOT authentic tiramisù.

To say "literally 'pick me up' or 'lift me up' in Italian" in Italian:

tiramisù (pronounced tee-ra-mee-SOO)

"tiramisù" in English means:

a dessert made with espresso-soaked savoiardi biscuits, mascarpone and eggs

Example

"Il tiramisù è il dolce italiano più famoso nel mondo."

"Tiramisù is the most famous Italian dessert in the world."
