'Allergie' — stress the last syllable: 'al-ler-GÌ-e'. 'Alimentari' — 'a-li-men-TA-ri', stress the fourth syllable.

'Allergie alimentari' = 'food allergies'. EU Regulation 1169/2011 requires Italian restaurants and hotels to list 14 major allergens. 'Menu' stays the same in Italian (it is a French loanword that Italian adopted).

Italy is highly aware of coeliac disease (celiachia) — it has one of the highest prevalence rates in Europe. The Italian Coeliac Association (AIC) certifies restaurants as gluten-free safe. Many restaurants display the AIC logo. Always mention allergies before ordering, not after.
