Argumentative Text — Testo Argomentativo·Register Consistency: Colloquialisms in Formal Essays
💡

Rule reminder

Register consistency (coerenza di registro) requires that every sentence in a formal Italian essay maintain formal vocabulary, syntax, and tone. A colloquialism (espressione colloquiale) or informal word breaks this consistency and lowers the quality of the text. Common violations: colloquial discourse markers ('insomma', 'tipo', 'cioè'), informal adjectives ('bello', 'brutto', 'tanto'), contracted or spoken forms, and emotional exclamations.
