Modal connectives summary: 'come' + indicative = real manner; 'come se' / 'quasi che' + congiuntivo = unreal manner; 'senza' + infinitive = without (same subject); 'senza che' + congiuntivo = without (different subjects); gerund = simultaneous manner (same subject); 'alla maniera di' = in the style of; 'nel modo in cui' = in the way that (real).
