Rule reminder

Use 'senza' + infinitive when both clauses share the same subject: È uscito senza salutare. (He left without saying goodbye.) Use 'senza che' + congiuntivo when the subjects are different: È uscito senza che lo vedessero. (He left without them seeing him.) This distinction is obligatory in Italian.
