Advanced Causal Clauses — Proposizioni Causali B2·Participio Assoluto — Advanced Causal Structures
💡

Rule reminder

The participio assoluto is a formal, literary construction: past participle + its own subject, DIFFERENT from the main clause subject. It condenses a causal (or temporal/concessive) clause into a compact form. Form: 'Finite le lezioni, gli studenti uscirono' = 'Once the lessons had ended / Since the lessons were over, the students left.' The participle agrees in gender/number with ITS subject (not the main clause subject). Register: very formal, literary, administrative.
