Italian journalism has distinct registers depending on the publication. Quotidiani di qualità (quality broadsheets: Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, La Stampa) use formal register, complex syntax, and full journalistic conventions (hearsay conditional, attribution formulas, etc.). Tabloid/popular press uses shorter sentences and sensational headlines. Free press (Metro, City) prioritises brevity. Understanding register helps B2 learners choose appropriate reading material and understand stylistic choices.
