Rule reminder

The absolute construction appears across all formal registers of Italian but is absent from informal spoken language. Each register has its characteristic vocabulary and typical absolute formulas: legal (Visto, Considerato, Ritenuto); academic (Analizzati, Esaminata, Condotte); literary (present-participle absolutes, narrative past-participle chains); journalistic (compact past-participle absolutes for rapid sequencing); formal written (Terminata la riunione, Firmato il contratto). Identifying register from context — and knowing which type of absolute is appropriate — is a key B2 competency.
