Advanced reading comprehension of formal Italian requires recognising absolute constructions embedded in continuous text, understanding their logical relationship to the main clause, and analysing agreement, subject identification, and semantic function. In formal prose, absolutes frequently appear mid-sentence (not only at the start) and may be interrupted by other modifiers.
