Literary Italian uses absolute constructions more extensively than spoken Italian. Key literary features: 1) Participio presente assoluto (rare, archaic/poetic): 'il sole calante'. 2) Noun-initial order (noun before participle): 'la riunione finita' — more literary than 'finita la riunione'. 3) Elaborate stacked absolutes. 4) Essere-type verbs with full agreement: 'giunto il momento, arrivata l'ora'. 5) Passato remoto in the main clause (narrative tense). Literary absolutes often compress rich background information before a pivotal narrative moment.
