Discourse Connectives — Connettivi Discorsivi·Conclusion Connectives
💡

Rule reminder

Conclusion connectives signal the end of an argument and the arrival at a final statement. 'In conclusione' (in conclusion) is the most direct and common. 'In definitiva' (ultimately/in the final analysis) suggests a balanced weighing of evidence. 'Per concludere' (to conclude) is common in speeches and essays. 'In ultima analisi' (in the final analysis) is more philosophical. 'In sintesi' (in summary) recaps. 'In sostanza' (essentially) distils the core argument. 'Tutto sommato' (all things considered) is slightly less formal.
