Textual Cohesion — Coesione Testuale·Lexical Cohesion — Synonymy and Repetition
💡

Rule reminder

Lexical cohesion (coesione lessicale) is created by: (1) Repetition — repeating the same word (useful for emphasis/precision). (2) Synonymy — using a word with the same or similar meaning. (3) Near-synonymy (quasi-sinonimia) — a word with overlapping but not identical meaning. (4) Superordinate/hypernym — a general word covering the specific one (es. 'animale' for 'cane'). (5) General word — a vague but cohesive reference (es. 'cosa', 'aspetto', 'questione'). These devices create cohesion by creating semantic chains through the text.
