Italian word

segnare

to mark, to score (a goal), to write down, to leave a mark

Looks like

to sign

to write one's signature

⚠️ The trap

To sign a document say 'firmare', not 'segnare'. 'Segnare' means to mark or to score in sport. 'Segna il tuo nome' = 'Write/mark your name' (informal note-taking), not a signature.

To say "to write one's signature" in Italian:

firmare (for to sign a document)

"segnare" in English means:

to mark, to score (a goal), to write down, to leave a mark

Example

"Messi ha segnato tre gol in una partita."

"Messi scored three goals in one match."
