Italian word

dogana

customs (at border/airport)

Looks like

dog? dogma?

customs = border control for goods

⚠️ The trap

From Arabic 'diwān' (register). 'Dogana' bears no resemblance to English 'customs' — learners must memorise it. Confusable with 'dogma' (dogma) which is 'dogma' in Italian too.

To say "customs = border control for goods" in Italian:

dogana

"dogana" in English means:

customs (at border/airport)

Example

"Abbiamo dichiarato tutto alla dogana."

"We declared everything at customs."
