Italian word

rimanere

to remain, to stay, to be left

Looks like

to remain

to stay in the same place or condition

⚠️ The trap

True cognate. However 'rimanere' also means 'to be left over/remaining' and is used in many fixed expressions: 'rimango colpito' = I'm struck/impressed; 'rimango sorpreso' = I'm surprised. English 'remain' never combines with emotions this way.

To say "to stay in the same place or condition" in Italian:

rimanere (true cognate)

"rimanere" in English means:

to remain, to stay, to be left

Example

"Rimani ancora un po' con noi."

"Stay with us a little longer."
