Italian word

amnistia

amnesty — the cancellation of criminal liability for a class of offences

Looks like

amnesty

an official pardon for a group of people, especially political offenders

⚠️ The trap

Largely equivalent, but in Italy 'amnistia' requires a two-thirds parliamentary majority (since 1992 reform) and is therefore very rare. English speakers may assume amnesty is a normal executive act, but in Italy it requires a supermajority vote.

"amnistia" in English means:

Example

"Il parlamento ha votato un'amnistia per i reati minori."

"Parliament voted for an amnesty for minor offences."
