⚠️ The trap

'Lucido' means shiny/glossy as well as mentally clear. 'Carta lucida' = 'glossy paper'. 'Lucido per scarpe' = 'shoe polish'. In English 'lucid' only refers to mental clarity. The shiny meaning does not transfer.

To say "mentally clear and able to think clearly" in Italian:

lucido (covers both lucid and shiny)

"lucido" in English means:

shiny, glossy; clear-headed; shoe polish

Example

"Dammi il lucido per le scarpe."

"Give me the shoe polish."
