A2🔤 Letters I & L

Italian word

libreria

bookshop, bookstore

Looks like

library

a public place to borrow books

⚠️ The trap

One of the most common mistakes! 'Libreria' is where you BUY books (bookshop). For where you BORROW books say 'biblioteca'. 'Ho studiato in biblioteca' = 'I studied in the library'.

To say "a public place to borrow books" in Italian:

biblioteca (for library)

"libreria" in English means:

bookshop, bookstore

Example

"Ho comprato questo romanzo in una libreria vicino a casa."

"I bought this novel at a bookshop near my home."
