Italian word

eventualmente

if necessary, if the case arises, possibly

Looks like

eventually

in the end, after a long time or many difficulties

⚠️ The trap

One of the most dangerous false friends. 'Eventualmente' means 'possibly/if the case arises', NOT 'eventually'. 'He will eventually come' = 'verrà prima o poi' or 'alla fine verrà'. Never 'verrà eventualmente'.

To say "in the end, after a long time or many difficulties" in Italian:

alla fine / prima o poi (for eventually)

"eventualmente" in English means:

if necessary, if the case arises, possibly

Example

"Eventualmente, possiamo cambiare piano."

"If necessary, we can change the plan."
