Italian word

degustare

to taste, to savour, to sample (food/wine)

Looks like

to disgust

to cause a strong feeling of revulsion

⚠️ The trap

'Degustare' means to taste/savour pleasurably — the OPPOSITE of 'disgust'. 'Una degustazione di vini' = a wine tasting. Don't confuse with 'disgustare' (to disgust), which does exist in Italian.

To say "to cause a strong feeling of revulsion" in Italian:

degustare (savour); disgustare (disgust)

"degustare" in English means:

to taste, to savour, to sample (food/wine)

Example

"Voglio degustare i vini locali."

"I want to taste/sample the local wines."
