Rule reminder

Written Italian uses emphatic structures differently from spoken Italian. Journalism: addirittura, ben, persino, tutt'altro che — common and accepted. Formal essays/reports: ben inteso, tutt'altro che, ben lungi dal, neppure, affatto, per nulla — appropriate. Literary prose: giammai, quand'anche, pur di, ben lungi, neppure — elevated. Avoid in formal writing: mica, macché, manco, figurati, piano piano (as reduplication), neanche morto. The ability to choose register-appropriate emphatics distinguishes B2-level writers.
