Rule reminder

Even when two synonyms have similar meanings, collocational restrictions determine which one is correct in a given phrase. 'Profondo' collocates with 'silenzio', 'rispetto', 'crisi', but NOT with 'successo'. 'Grande' goes with 'successo', 'differenza', 'problema'. 'Forte' goes with 'impressione', 'dolore', 'vento'. Learning which adjectives, verbs, and nouns go together is essential at B2+.
