Rule reminder
'Fuorché' and 'tranne che' introduce exceptive clauses in literary, formal, and elevated Italian. They are followed by the subjunctive when introducing a finite clause, or by an infinitive/noun when the subject is the same. 'Fuorché' is more literary; 'tranne che' is used in both formal and standard written Italian. Both mean 'except (that)', 'other than', or 'unless'.
