Exceptive Clauses — Proposizioni Eccettuative·Exceptive clauses with compound and perfect tenses
💡

Rule reminder

The tense of the subjunctive in exceptive clauses follows the sequence of tenses (concordanza dei tempi): main clause present/future → present subjunctive; main clause past → imperfect subjunctive; when the subordinate action precedes the main → perfect subjunctive. Example: Verrò, a meno che non sia già partito. (unless I have already left)
