Rule reminder
'Stare + gerundio' is used with DYNAMIC action verbs (running, reading, eating, writing). It is NOT normally used with STATIVE verbs that describe states rather than actions: essere, avere (in stative senses), sapere, conoscere, volere, potere, sembrare, esistere. For states, use simple present or imperfect.
