Rule reminder

Italian has a strong distinction between formal (scritto formale) and informal (parlato) registers. Mastering register means knowing which collocations belong to which level: 'sostenere un esame' (formal) vs 'fare un esame' (informal), 'recarsi' vs 'andare', 'richiedere' vs 'chiedere', 'effettuare' vs 'fare'. In job applications, academic papers and official documents, always choose the more formal collocation.
