Rule reminder
'A + noun' (al/alla/ai/alle) is common in spoken Italian. 'Da + noun' (dal/dalla/dai/dalle) is more formal/written and carries a slight passive nuance ('repaired BY the mechanic').
In a formal written context (report), which would be preferred for 'The director had the report written by the secretary'?
