'Già' (already), 'ancora' (still / again), 'non ancora' (not yet) are placed between the auxiliary and past participle in compound tenses: 'Ho già mangiato.' / 'Non ho ancora mangiato.' With simple tenses, they follow the verb: 'Sei ancora qui?' / 'Sei già qui?' Understanding the position is essential for natural Italian.
