Italian word

distrarre

to distract, to take someone's mind off something

Looks like

to distress

to cause anxiety or suffering

⚠️ The trap

The '-trarre' ending looks like 'distress' to some learners, but 'distrarre' = to distract. To distress someone say 'angosciare' or 'turbare'. 'Sono distratto' = 'I am distracted', not 'I am distressed'.

To say "to cause anxiety or suffering" in Italian:

angosciare, addolorare (for to distress)

"distrarre" in English means:

to distract, to take someone's mind off something

Example

"Il rumore mi distrae mentre studio."

"The noise distracts me while I study."
