Italian word

marmellata

jam made from citrus fruit (technically); colloquially any jam

Looks like

marmalade

marmalade is specifically citrus jam (especially orange) in English

⚠️ The trap

Italians use 'marmellata' for ALL jams, even strawberry or apricot. In strict English usage, 'marmalade' is only citrus. Technically in Italian, non-citrus preserves should be called 'confettura', but in everyday speech 'marmellata' is used for everything.

To say "marmalade is specifically citrus jam (especially orange) in English" in Italian:

marmellata (jam, any fruit) / confettura (non-citrus jam, technically)

"marmellata" in English means:

jam made from citrus fruit (technically); colloquially any jam

Example

"Ho messo la marmellata di fragole sul toast."

"I put strawberry jam on the toast."
