A2🔤 Letters F & G
Italian word
genere
genre, type, kind, gender
Looks like
genre
a category or style (music, film, literature)
⚠️ The trap
Genere is broader than English 'genre'. It means type/kind in general ('ogni genere di problema' = all kinds of problems) and also grammatical gender — not just film/music categories.
To say "a category or style (music, film, literature)" in Italian:
genere is a true cognate but broader
"genere" in English means:
genre, type, kind, gender
Example
"Che genere di musica ti piace?"
"What type/kind of music do you like?"
