A2🎨 Art & Culture
Italian word
autore
author; creator (of any work of art)
Looks like
actor (via confusion with 'attore')
a person who writes books
⚠️ The trap
In Italian 'autore' applies to any creative work — 'l'autore del quadro' (the painter), 'l'autore del film' (the filmmaker/writer). In English 'author' almost exclusively means a writer of texts.
To say "a person who writes books" in Italian:
autore (correct)
"autore" in English means:
author; creator (of any work of art)
Example
"Chi è l'autore di questo dipinto?"
"Who is the author (creator) of this painting?"
