single (not in a relationship)
SEEN-gol
Single is borrowed directly from English and is now the most common informal term in Italian for being unattached. It is invariable (same form for male and female). It has largely replaced 'scapolo/zitella' in modern speech.
Sono single da sei mesi.
I have been single for six months.
È single e non cerca una relazione seria al momento.
She is single and not looking for a serious relationship right now.
