Usage note

'Codardo' and 'vigliacco' are strong insults. 'Vigliacco' is slightly more colloquial and emphatic. 'Pavido' is literary. 'Pusillanime' is formal (literally small-souled — faint-hearted). 'Timoroso' is softer (fearful rather than contemptibly cowardly).
