Call the fire brigade! There's a risk of fire!
'Vigili del fuoco' = VEE-jee-lee del FWOH-koh. 'Fuoco' = fire; 'vigili' = guards/wardens.
Use when you smell fuel, see smoke, or see sparks after a collision. Fire risk changes all first-aid priorities — evacuation takes precedence over spinal precautions.
115 is the Italian fire brigade (Vigili del Fuoco) number, though 112 also dispatches them. When fire is a risk, vehicles should be evacuated quickly, engines turned off, and bystanders moved at least 30 metres away. Never use a mobile phone near a fuel spill.
C'è una perdita di carburante.
There is a fuel leak.
Fuel leaks require fire brigade attendance even without flames.
Vedo del fumo uscire dal cofano.
I can see smoke coming from the bonnet.
Smoke before fire — evacuate immediately and call 115.
Spegnete i motori di tutti i veicoli coinvolti!
Turn off the engines of all vehicles involved!
Critical safety instruction — reduces ignition risk.
Italian motorway management companies (autostrade) have their own emergency coordinators. On motorways, use the orange SOS telephones — they alert Viabilità Italia, which coordinates all emergency services simultaneously.
