I'm getting off at the next stop. Can you tell me when?
'Scendo' — 'SHEN-do'. Two syllables; 'sc' before 'e' gives a 'sh' sound.
Use on a bus or tram when you are unsure which stop is next and need the driver or a fellow passenger to alert you.
'Scendo alla prossima' means 'I'm getting off at the next stop'. 'Può dirmi quando' means 'can you tell me when'. This phrase doubles as a polite alert to the driver and a request for help.
Mi avvisa alla fermata di...?
Can you let me know at the stop for...?
Names a specific stop; asks for an alert.
Questa è la mia fermata?
Is this my stop?
Urgent check as the bus is stopping.
Manca ancora una fermata?
Is there still one more stop?
Confirms how many stops remain.
On Italian buses, fellow passengers and drivers are generally helpful when asked for stop alerts. In small towns, the driver knows exactly where each passenger is going and will often call out the stop automatically — a lovely aspect of small-town Italian travel.
