Where are the bathrooms?
BA-gni — two syllables, stress on the first. 'gn' is the palatal nasal sound.
Ask on arrival or any time you need to find the bathroom facilities in an unfamiliar part of the hostel.
'Dove si trovano' = where are (literally 'where do they find themselves') — a common way to ask location. 'I bagni' = the bathrooms/toilets. In Italian, 'bagno' means both bathroom (with shower) and toilet, depending on context.
I bagni sono misti o separati?
Are the bathrooms mixed or separate?
Important in mixed-gender dorms — bathrooms are usually separated
C'è un bagno privato nella stanza?
Is there a private bathroom in the room?
Ask if you booked a private room and want to confirm amenities
Quanti bagni ci sono per piano?
How many bathrooms are there per floor?
Useful to know the ratio of bathrooms to guests
Italian hostel bathrooms are typically clean and reasonably maintained. Shower cleaning frequency varies — look for reviews mentioning bathroom cleanliness before booking. Flip-flops ('infradito') are strongly recommended for shared hostel showers as a basic hygiene precaution.
