When you need to use the bathroom at a bar. One of the most universally needed phrases in any situation.
'Dov'è' = where is (contraction of 'dove è'). 'Il bagno' = the bathroom. In Italian bars the bathroom is usually at the back, downstairs, or through the kitchen. Always ask — it may not be obvious.

Many Italian bars now have coded bathroom locks to prevent non-customers from using the facilities. The code is usually written on the receipt or given verbally when you ask. This system was introduced to manage the enormous number of tourists using Italian city bars as free bathroom stops.
