Perception Verbs — Verbi di Percezione·Perception Verbs with Gerund vs Infinitive
💡

Rule reminder

In Italian, perception verbs (vedere, sentire, ascoltare, osservare, guardare) take the INFINITIVE of the dependent verb: Ho visto Maria correre (NOT 'Ho visto Maria correndo'). The gerund is NOT used after perception verbs in standard Italian — unlike English ('I saw her running'). However, the gerund can appear in other contexts of simultaneous action.
