'Chiedere' = to ask (general, most common). 'Domandare' = to ask (slightly more formal or literary than 'chiedere', often interchangeable). 'Richiedere' = to require/formally request (formal; also means 'to demand'). 'Interrogare' = to question/interrogate (official, also: teacher testing students). 'Interpellare' = to consult/formally address (very formal, institutional).
