Rule reminder

'A meno che non' focuses on a condition that would prevent the main action from happening (future-oriented exception). 'Tranne che' often introduces an exception to a general truth or habitual action. Both require the subjunctive when a clause follows, but 'tranne che' can also precede nouns/infinitives directly.
