Rule reminder

'Visto che' (seeing that / given that) implies the speaker is OBSERVING a visible or evident fact as the reason. 'Dato che' (given that / since) presents the cause as a given premise. Both are semi-formal and accept the indicative. They are largely interchangeable but 'visto che' is slightly more evidential.
