Italian journalism frequently uses the passive voice (voce passiva) and impersonal constructions to give news an objective, impersonal tone. Common patterns: (1) essere + participio passato: 'Il decreto è stato firmato' (the decree was signed); (2) venire + participio passato: 'La legge viene applicata' (the law is applied); (3) si passivante: 'Si è tenuta una riunione' (a meeting was held); (4) andare + participio: 'Le norme vanno rispettate' (the rules must be respected — necessity). These structures shift focus from agent to action, typical of formal journalistic register.
