Rule reminder
When reading Italian news, analyse simultaneously: (1) what is confirmed vs. alleged (indicative vs. conditional), (2) who is speaking (reporting verbs + attribution), (3) what has been nominalised (nouns replacing verbs), (4) institutional vocabulary, (5) headline vs. body text differences. Advanced readers track all these layers at once.
In the same paragraph, 'il premier avrebbe convocato un vertice d'emergenza' — why does the journalist use the conditional here?
