Rule reminder

When direct speech already contains conditionals or subjunctives, these must be correctly handled in reported speech: present conditional (farei) → conditional perfect (avrei fatto); imperfect subjunctive (facessi) → remains imperfect subjunctive; pluperfect subjunctive (avessi fatto) → remains unchanged. No further backshift is possible beyond the pluperfect.
