Rule reminder

Modal verbs in reported speech: potere → poteva (could), dovere → doveva (had to), volere → voleva (wanted), sapere → sapeva (knew how to). In past reported speech these shift to imperfect. Future modals (potrà, dovrà) → conditional (potrebbe/avrebbe potuto, dovrebbe/avrebbe dovuto).
